The Left's “Dear Leader” Syndrome
Those who showered Joe Biden with adorations after his disastrous press conference do so for their hunger for power and influence.

Last Thursday, we finally witnessed President Biden’s supposedly “Big Boy” press conference, the first in eight months. The press conference took place after several media outlets reported about how Joe Biden’s inner circle at the White House “aggressively stage-managed” his schedule and interaction with others, seeking to cover up signs of his mental and physical deterioration. This lack of transparency and honesty in our political leadership is a cause for concern and disappointment.
Joe Biden’s inner circle only reluctantly agreed to let him do a press conference alone without a teleprompter after the call for him to drop out has gotten louder since Biden’s catastrophic debate performance. The Biden team had hoped the “Big Boy” press conference would demonstrate Joe still got what it takes to be the leader of the most powerful nation in the world. That turned out to be wishful thinking.
In addition to his typical rumbling, half-finished thoughts and plenty of filler words, such as “anyways,” Biden introduced the president of Ukraine, Zelensky, as “President Putin” and called his Vice President Kamala Harris” Vice President Trump” as leaders of America’s closest allies watched on with unease. When discussing America’s strategy on Ukraine, Biden delivered a long confusing word salad, including forgetting that he is the commander in chief.
“And so, our military is worki—I’m following the advice of my commander in chief—my—my—of the—the chief of staff of the military as well as the secretary of Defense and our intelligence people. And we’re making a day-to-day basis on what they should and shouldn’t g—how far they should go in. That’s a logical thing to do.”
Biden’s gaffes and public display of infirmity are not just a personal embarrassment but a national humiliation, tarnishing America’s reputation on the global stage.
After watching the press conference, I wept for my country. We Americans are proud people. Our nation was born out of victory against tyranny; we fought and won the two world wars and the Cold War, and built the world’s most dynamic economy. We deserve to have a leader with the mental and physical capacity to do the job he was elected for, and there is nothing partisan about such an expectation from voters.
The questions we need to ask now are whether Joe Biden should run for a second term and whether he is still fit to serve his remaining term. But the more pressing question that remains unanswered is, who has been running the country for the last three and a half years? This uncertainty is a cause for concern for many Americans with common sense.
Yet, Andrew Bates, whose social media profile says he is White House Senior Deputy Press Secretary and assistant to the President, tweeted on X.com after Biden’s press conference,
“To answer the question on everyone’s minds: No, Joe Biden does not have a doctorate in foreign affairs. He’s just that fucking good.”
Joel Rubin, former Obama deputy assistant Secretary of State, said,
“This is a very strong performance. Quite frankly @POTUS is putting on a master class in how foreign policy and domestic policy intersect, explaining how crucial American global leadership is to our people here at home. Well done, Mr. President.”
By the way, Joe Biden has never been known as a foreign policy genius. According to Robert Gates, former Secretary of Defense under President Obama, Joe Biden’s has been “wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades.”
Still, the post-press conference adorations of these current and former government officials were quickly echoed by the Democrat Party’s propagandists in legacy media, showing a unified front. Joy Reid of MSNBC vowed that she would vote for Joe Biden even if he was in coma. A Washington Post columnist, Jennifer Rubin, tweeted
“Tonight he did. He must continue to show how on top of it he is. He knows more about foreign policy than anyone since Bush 41. He was impressive.”
It’s striking to see these government officials and pundits showered Joe Biden with such adulations after his disastrous press conference. It’s as if they live in an alternative universe or all suffer from the ‘Dear Leader’ syndrome.
