Red Scarves and Masks
What the left is advocating is the same socialist/Marxist ideology that once ruined China.
Anyone who ever traveled to China probably met more than one school-age children walking around with red scarves around their necks. But, unfortunately, the red scarf is not a fashionable and popular accessory for children in China but a symbol of political allegiance and identity.
In Communist China, only the Young Pioneers of China (YPC) get to wear red scarves. YPC is an organization the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) used to groom its heirs from a very young age, between six to fourteen. The YPC’s founding charter states that it is under the direct leadership and supervision of the CCP. The YPC “teaches Chinese children about Communism... and it exists to build a communist reserve for the future.” Its members wore triangular red scarves. Many YPC members went on to become members of the CCP when they grew up.
A membership to the YPC is supposed to be voluntary. When I was growing up in China, however, elementary schools required their students to become members of the Young Pioneer…
