Dear friends, I had a different post scheduled for today but given what happened on Saturday, I decided to postpone my original post to Tuesday.
You probably have heard that former President Trump survived a failed assassination attempt at his campaign rally on Saturday, July 13th, and suffered a non-life-threatening injury.
I also learned that one spectator (not the assassin) was dead, and two were injured and are still in critical condition.
No political candidate should have to risk his life when taking a political stand. No Americans should have to fear for their lives when exercising their constitutional rights and participating in political rallies.
While emotions may be running high, I decide to wait until more credible information emerge before writing more about it.
This is a very dark time for America. Please join me in praying for the family of the spectator who was killed, the two families whose loved ones are still in hospital, the Trump family, and our country. And hug your family tight!
Thank you for your reasoned and thoughtful post, Helen. I expected nothing else from you, and wholeheartedly agree with you approaching this in a cautious manner until more information is found out and disbursed.
I think the most troubling thing about this is that so many have lost the ability to compartmentalize and view things from the perspective of humanity, and instead, immediately go to political tribalism. The most somber thoughts should go to the family of the individual who was murdered at the rally, and I feel horrible for them. Additionally, the same is true for the families of the other two victims who are in critical condition, and also the family of the shooter, as I am sure they are horrified and the media will be all over them. It’s such a tragic situation, and nothing good can come out of it.
As you wisely suggested, I will be in prayer for all those affected by this situation, and although it’s almost impossible at this point, I do hope we can be brought closer as a country by this awful occurrence. Enjoy your Sunday and God bless.
