By pardoning his son, Hunter Biden, Joe Biden gave himself a pass for being a failed parent and a corrupt politician.
My dad always tells me he loves me unconditionally, but that doesn't mean he will co-sign all my behaviors. One of the fundamental responsibilities of a parent is to teach your child right from wrong, and sometimes such teaching involves discipline, which we commonly refer to as tough love. Hebrews 12:11 reminds all parents, "No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those trained by it." Where Biden failed as a parent is that he either didn't understand or was unwilling to practice tough love. Instead, he equated co-signing Hunter's many destructive behaviors to fatherly love.
In his pardoning announcement, Joe Biden said Hunter was singled out because of his last name. Joe Biden was partially right. If not for his famous last name, Hunter wouldn't have been paid millions by foreign nationals from China to Ukraine to sit on corporate boards of dubious companies, wouldn't have traveled on Air Force 2 and have access to heads of state, his mediocre paintings wouldn't have sold for half a million dollars apiece; his crimes would have landed him in prison long ago.
Yet, even with credible evidence about Hunter Biden’s crimes continuing to emerge and whistle blowers coming forward with shocking revelation, Joe Biden has continued to dismiss charges against Hunter, defending Hunter publicly by praising him as the “smartest guy,” permitting former intel officials and his spokesperson to discredit findings on Hunter’s infamous laptop as Russian misinformation, allowing the Justice Department and the FBI to give Hunter special treatment; even letting Hunter sit in cabinet meetings after Joe couldn’t hid his infirmity after his disastrous performance at the presidential debate. Meanwhile, Joe Biden preached to Americans that “no one is above the law.” As Wes Fesler once said, “Hypocrisy is the audacity to preach integrity from a den of corruption.”
On Sunday, merely weeks before Hunter had to face sentencing for the crimes he was convicted of, Joe Biden issued a sweeping pardon to protect his son. The pardon is the natural outcome of Joe Biden’s failure as a parent who has been constantly co-signed to his son’s various destructive behaviors.
Joe Biden wanted us to believe he did so purely out of a father’s love for his son. But the pardon announcement covers a period that goes back to 2014, long before Hunter’s current legal troubles with firearm and tax evasion began. Why? Joe Biden presents himself as a scrappy guy from a working-class background who stands up for ordinary Americans. The truth is that the “Scranton Joe” image he painstakingly cultivated is a façade. Joe and Jill Biden are known in the D.C. circle for their champagne taste and beer budget. The couple’s latest personal finance disclosure revealed that they carried over $800,000 in debt, mostly in mortgage for their mansion in Delaware. Joe’s salary as a politician is insufficient to support his and his wife’s taste for luxuries.
It was unclear whether Joe or Hunter initially came up with the idea to enrich the Biden family by selling access to Joe as he took on various political positions with which the American people entrusted Joe. We know now that according to information uncovered on Hunter’s laptop and whistle-blowers’ testimonies, Joe Biden was the “Big guy” who took a cut of Hunter’s dubious business dealing, which essentially involved selling access. Content from Hunter’s laptop showed that Joe and Jill Biden relied on Hunter financially. Hunter wrote to his daughter Naomi in 2019, “I hope you all can do what I did and pay for everything for this entire family for 30 years. It’s really hard. But don’t worry, unlike Pop [Joe], I won’t make you give me half your salary.”
Joe’s involvement in Hunter’s corruption was not just a passive role. Voice messages revealed that Joe would participate in phone calls at Hunter’s behest, using his influence to secure deals. This active participation in high-level corruption starkly contrasts Joe’s public statements during the 2020 presidential campaign and his presidency, where he repeatedly denied discussing business with Hunter, thereby deceiving the American people.
Even left-leaning media figures like Chuck Todd, an NBC political analyst who had been a staunch defender of Joe and Hunter Biden since 2019, are now appalled by what they’ve learned from Hunter Biden’s trial. In a recent interview, Todd expressed his anger, saying, “If you want to get angry, read Hallie Biden’s transcript, and that’s Bo’s widow [Bo was Joe Biden’s deceased son]..essentially he [Hunter] turned her into a crack addict. This was all happening in 2017 and 2018... Joe and Jill became so concerned about their family that they decided to run for president…Speaking of being selfish…their decision has put the entire Democratic party and the United States of America in the position that it is in now.”
In simple terms, Joe Biden didn’t run for president out of a love for America, a desire to defend democracy, or a wish to serve the American people. His true motivation was a self-serving lust for power and the benefits it could bring to him and his family: shielding them from the legal consequences of their corruption and ensuring they continued to live a luxurious lifestyle, a lifestyle they could never afford based solely on their raw talents.
When viewed through the lens of Joe and Jill Biden’s alleged motivations, it becomes clear that Joe Biden’s pardon of Hunter was not solely an act of paternal love. It is suggested that self-preservation also played a significant role, with Joe Biden reportedly extending the pardon period back to 2014 to protect himself and his family.
I grew up in a corrupt country, Communist China, and had first-hand experience of how corruption demoralized a nation. When ordinary citizens saw a two-tiered system and lost all faith in their ability to improve their situation because the elites would take it all anyway and get away with it, citizens either gave up trying to work hard or sought radical ideology for solutions. One of the reasons that the Chinese Communist Party’s ragtag army beat the Nationalist Party’s well-equipped and well-financed army during the Civil War was that ordinary Chinese citizens were so disgusted by the Nationalist Party’s corruption that they embraced Communism and provided crucial assistance to the CCP.
Regardless of your political affiliation, Democrats or Republicans, as Americans, we must all recognize that corruption is a cancer of our society and demand accountability. After all, no one is above the law, right?
