I spoke to Fox & Friends this morning about the rising number of Chinese migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border and the latest house report on the Chinese government’s role in America’s fentanyl crisis. You can watch the clip here.
My main points are the following (I didn’t get to say all of these in the 3 minutes’ time allocated to me).
Most Chinese migrants said in interviews that seeking a better life and religious freedom are the top reasons for coming to America. China has experienced the worst economic slowdown in decades; its property market has collapsed, and the youth unemployment rate is high. By not stopping some of these unemployed young people from leaving China, Beijing intends to export some of its economic problems to the U.S.
The Biden administration’s open border policy has made crossing borders illegally into the U.S. easy. There is no doubt that some Chinese migrants might be spies or sleeper cells sent by the Chinese government to take advantage of our chaotic border situation. We don’t know how many and who they are because the Biden administration has abandoned one of its fundamental duties: securing America. At the same time, we cannot simply lump all of the Chinese migrants as dangerous invaders sent by Beijing.
By the way, I’m afraid I have to disagree with the Fox News host’s assertion that people can never leave China. Beijing definitely keeps political dissidents or anyone it regards as a threat in China. But so far, Beijing hasn’t shut down its border and stopped many Chinese people from traveling abroad, whether for business, sightseeing or immigration. There is also a lack of evidence that all the 30,000 + illegal Chinese migrants who crossed the U.S.-Mexico border were somehow recruited and sent to the U.S. by Beijing. I discussed this in my other substack post.
About the U.S. House report on China’s role in America’s fentanyl crisis: It only confirms what we already know since 2013: the CCP is complicit in the U.S. fentanyl epidemic. The party controls China’s chemical industry and has provided generous subsidies to biomedical and chemical companies. These companies cannot possibly export fentanyl materials without the party’s blessing.
The CCP promised three U.S. presidents, Obama, Trump, and Biden, that it would crack down on internet sales of chemicals for manufacturing fentanyl, and the party employs an army to monitor China’s internet. Yet, even today, people overseas can still log on to Chinese websites and order fentanyl precursors. At the minimum, it demonstrates that the CCP has no intention to keep its promises to the U.S.
President Biden should also take some blame because he hasn’t taken the fentanyl crisis seriously, and he has failed to press the CCP hard on the issue. What President Biden must do right now is to impose severe sanctions on Chinese chemical and biomedical companies until the CCP takes action to stop fueling America’s fentanyl crisis.
Hi Helen,
I seldom watch Fox anymore since they fired Tucker Carlson. But I did have Fox and Friends on this morning getting ready for work and saw most of your interview. I think you did a fine job! But I understand your frustration. Their format is horrible and has been for a long time. Giving a guest 3 minutes is not nearly enough time for a substantive, compelling conversation. Very few people can talk and think as fast as Brian Killmeade. He is good at it which is why he does it for a living. I watch Tucker on his new platform and I much prefer his approach of sitting down with someone for forty minutes or so. Much better for the guest and viewer, in my view. Anyway, yes, certainly China is trying to subvert the U.S. and it is happening on many fronts. Flooding America with Fentanyl is just one approach…………
