Boycotting NBC for the next two weeks during the Olympics is how we can send a message to morally bankrupt corporations
The Chinese Communist Party kicked off the Winter Olympics this Friday, and the extravagant propaganda show will last two weeks. Many human rights groups and activists of the "Boycott Beijing Olympics" are understandably disappointed. But they shouldn't be. Thanks to these activists' tireless efforts, a number of countries, including the United States, diplomatically boycott the event, meaning they won't send high-level officials to Beijing.
Many people think such diplomatic boycotting is useless. While I agree that diplomatic boycotting is not the most valuable tool in our toolbox to counter the CCP, there are still some benefits. First, China's leader Xi lost face (a Chinese way of saying being humiliated publicly). Xi wanted to use the Olympics to proclaim to the rest of the world, but especially to 1.4 billion Chinese people, that under the CCP's rule, China's global dominance is inevitable.
