Cruelty In Broad Day Light
They seemed so arrogant and defiant that they didn't even bother to hide the cruel nature of the regime they worked for anymore.
A disturbing video went viral over the weekend and sent shock waves to many, especially those of us who watch Communist China closely. It affirms the cruelty of the ruling Communist Party.
The video footage showed some Hong Kong immigrants staged a protest outside the Chinese Consulate in Manchester, UK. Staff from the Chinese Consulate kicked down protesters' signs, dragged one protestor into the Consulate's gate, and beat him up. Multiple people identified Chinese Consulate General Zheng Xiyuan (see here and here) participated in the destruction of protestors' banners and was possibly involved in the physical assaults of one protestor.
Fortunately, Manchester Police got involved, and one of them was able to pull the protester out of the gate. Some people online blamed the UK police for their slow response. But the truth is that police are not supposed to go inside foreign diplomatic missions without obtaining permission from the ambassador first.
The rescued protestor, going by the name "Bob," told a journalist from Voice of America that he was "terrified, and sustained injuries on his head, face, neck, back, and waist." If not for the police intervention, Bob could have ended up like Jamal Khashoggi. Khashoggi, a Saudi dissident journalist, was assassinated by agents of the Saudi government at the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, in 2018.
The last time Chinese diplomats attacked protestors on the UK soil was in 1967, during the height of the Cultural Revolution in 1967.
The video of what took place in Manchester last week was so appalling that I couldn't believe it was real when I first watched it. Only after verifying it with multiple more credible sources, including a few seasoned China watchers, could I confirm its authenticity.
I found the whole incident and its aftermath disturbing for several reasons.
